Open Studio Residency and Exhibition

monograph prints made with powdered reclaimed brick

Material Redistribution is a series of prints made during an Open Studio Residency in Toronto. During this time, I worked with master printmaker Laine Groeneweg to formulate ink from powdered brick, test its capabilities and characteristics as a printing medium, and produce a series of prints. The bricks employed were collected from Toronto’s Leslie Spit where the remains of many historic Toronto Buildings were used as clean fill in creating the spit. In re-examining Toronto’s history and considering its evolving nature, Material Redistribution gestured toward reciprocity in relationships, both with the land itself and with those who have been displaced in its settlement.
